چکیده

We introduce a discrete–time quantum walk on a one-dimensional momentum space including both discrete jumps and continuous drift. Its time evolution has two different stages. Initially a Markovian diffusion develops during a characteristic time interval, after which dynamical localization sets in, as in the well known Quantum Kicked Rotor system. For some exceptional values of the model’s parameter the system exhibits resonant behavior and the system model behaves as the standard discrete time quantum walker on the line.

Generalized Quantum Walk in Momentum Space

We study a new model of quantum walk on a one dimensional momentum space that includes both discrete jumps and continuous drift. Its time evolution has two different stages. Initially a Markovian diffusion develops during a characteristic time interval, after which dynamical localization sets in, as in the well known Quantum Kicked Rotor system. For some exceptional values of the model’s parame...

Implementing quantum walks using orbital angular momentum of classical light.

We present an implementation scheme for a quantum walk in the orbital angular momentum space of a laser beam. The scheme makes use of a ring interferometer, containing a quarter-wave plate and a q plate. This setup enables one to perform an arbitrary number of quantum walk steps. In addition, the classical nature of the implementation scheme makes it possible to observe the quantum walk evoluti...

Optical implementation of one-dimensional quantum random walks using orbital angular momentum of a single photon

Photons can carry orbital angular momentum (OAM), which offers a practical realization of a high-dimensional quantum information carrier. In this paper, by employing OAM of a single photon, we propose an experimental scheme to implement one-dimensional two-state quantum random walks on an infinite line. Furthermore, we show that the scheme can be used to implement one-dimensional three-state qu...

A discrete-time quantum walk taking continuous steps

This note introduces a quantum random walk in R and proves the weak convergence of its rescaled n-step densities. Quantum walks of the type we consider in this note were introduced in [1], which defined and analyzed the Hadamard quantum walk on Z, and a “new type of convergence theorem” for such quantum walks on Z was discovered by Konno [4, 5]. A much simpler proof of Konno’s theorem has recen...

Effects of non-local initial conditions in the Quantum Walk on the line

We report an enhancement of the decay rate of the survival probability when nonlocal initial conditions in position space are considered in the Quantum Walk on the line. It is shown how this interference effect can be understood analytically by using previously derived results. Within a restricted position subspace, the enhanced decay is correlated with a maximum asymptotic entanglement level w...
